Welcome to the Global Text Society
The Global Text Society is an advocate group that promotes the ideals and spreads the word about the Global Text Project's effort and impact. The Global Text Society started its activity in 2008 when Dr. Watson, the Global Text Project co-leader, along with Marisa Drexel, the chief editor, and a group of students realized that in order to further promote the project effort, we needed to form an active and energized organization that share the common goal in the promotion of the Global Text Project. The Global Text Project is a University of Georgia project developing open content electronic textbooks that will be freely available from a website. The Projects' hope is to assist other students in developing countries obtain the resources they need to further their education, which will lead to the advancement of knowledge for themselves and for their community. Our association has grown by including new members to their team in the past months and it is extremely motivated to bring more members aboard with the mission to fulfill the society goals.
Our Mission
The Global Text Society is an autonomous student organization created to represent, complement, and advance the goals of the Global Text Project. Our goals include, promoting awareness of the project in universities in particular and the community in general, establishing a model student society to stimulate foundation of a similar society in other academic communities, providing opportunities for volunteers to assist with the project, and preparing UGA students to be directly involved in the project. Above all, we seek to maintain the focus of the project on quality and service to future Global Text Project participants and benefactors through our perspective as students and social innovators.
